Maine, Day 3

I just realized I'm like the person who invites you over for dinner and then subjects you to my home movies and travel pictures!!  Oh well, I guess you can always come back after the "Maine-ia" is over...hehehe.  I couldn't resist.  The main reason I'm posting so many photos is that at the end of the year, I slurp my blog into a blurb book and it becomes our family album/journal for the  year.  It makes keeping up with all of the memories and details so much easier...thus 6 days worth of travel photos.  Sorry, guys!

We pulled out of New Harbor headed for Bangor.  We had read about a former pharmacy, now turned restaurant that had a fantastic breakfast so we made a stop in Camden. We ate at the Boynton McKay Food Company and it was divine.

The breakfast specials....

The homemade goodies...

and the doughnuts....yum, doughnuts.

After breakfast we decided to just take a walk around to see what we could see and oh my goodness, the things we saw! New Harbor, Damariscotta, and now Camden; three places I could live quite happily.

There were tons of fun places to eat and we had fun doing a little window shopping also.

We finally pulled ourselves away from Camden and started once again toward Bangor.  Along the way we passed the beautiful Norumbega Inn.  It overlooks the Penobscot Bay and is within walking distance from Camden.

Quick stop in Belfast...

and onto Fort Point Lighthouse in Cape Jellison.

We finally arrived in Bangor and drove by the home of Stephen King.  After being in so many beautiful spots, Bangor was a bit of a let down for us.  It's a great place but there's just something special about being on the coast.  We did have an amazing dinner at a chain called Sea Dog.  I'm salivating just thinking about it (I think I gained about 5 pounds on this trip).  We had Mussels et Frites, lobster bisque, and seafood paella.  Day 4 in Acadia coming soon!

Maine, Day 2

We had actually planned to leave the New Harbor area and head north but we liked where we were so much that we changed our plans and stayed an extra day.  We began the morning with an enormous plate of blueberry pancakes at a little restaurant next to the Pemaquid Lighthouse, called The Seagull. We had seats right by the water and it was nice to just sit and look out at the lighthouse.

There's the cutest hotel within walking distance from the lighthouse and it made me think of the resort from "Dirty Dancing."

Since we were not only on vacation but also a pseudo-scouting mission for a possible new home, we drove out to Wiscasset to check out a home or two there.  We walked a few streets and found the town to be quite charming.  Even though it was absolutely beautiful, I quickly got the impression that come summertime, it would be way overcrowded.  The line of cars coming into the town from the east on a weekday was just ridiculous.

We headed out to Boothbay Harbor after our short trip to Wiscasset.  We found Boothbay to be beautiful although quite touristy.

We had planned to have lunch in Boothbay but couldn't stop thinking about a cute pub we'd seen the day before in Damariscotta.  As it was right smack in the middle of the pumpkin festival there, we couldn't get a table.  Since the festival had ended and it was on our way back to New Harbor, we decided to stop and give King Eider's Pub another shot.

There was still a little bit of a wait for a table and so we took another walk through the town.

When we finally got in, it turns out it was so worth the wait!  We had fresh oysters on the half shell right out of the Damariscotta River...

A lobster roll with huge chunks of lobster...

Their famous crab cakes...

and a goat cheese salad with a pecan caramel cheesecake for dessert.  They even brought a container of M&Ms over for a little touch of something sweet at the end of your meal.

Since we hadn't made it back to the lighthouse the day before, we drove back over to take a few more pictures.  You guys know how I'm a little nuts when it comes to rocks and there's this huge stream of granite that rolls down to the sea there...it was heavenly.

The next morning we would be heading farther north and leaving our little house behind.  I was both excited and sad.  Since our return I've already started talking to family, grandparents, siblings, etc. in an attempt to convince them we need to plan a family trip back to this very area.  What a spectacular place!
